Thesis statement, example one

Although “Araby” and “The Garden Party” open with indifferent environments, their protagonists manage to gain some freedom to pursue their goals. After they transcend this indifference, however, they come to realize that the values they had fought for were built upon the unsteady ground of naivety. Only by being held captive by the words of others can the protagonists begin to transcend their naivety.
